Brighton Mixtapes 008: Brighton's Mysterious Duo Emerges

Since the success of our beloved Berlin Mixtapes Series, which has featured awesome guests so far, we felt there was a real gap in terms of showcasing the amazing talent within our own home city right here in Brighton. We have a wide spectrum of artists that span across many genres therefore we decided we would create the 'Brighton Mixtapes' Series, so that we can not only showcase established artists but also feature up and coming musicians that would like a platform to be heard.

Next up we bring you a mysterious duo whose identity has been shrouded in mystery and must remain secret for the foreseeable future. Why? Even we don't know yet, however their skills and auditory craftsmanship in the shadows has been exemplary so far with some top releases already and more to come in 2020.

So what is a Cypherpunk? A Cypherpunk is any activist advocating widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change. Therefore their wish to remain and operate in secret whilst pushing their sound from the shadows can only be respected. 2019 marked their first release on Damian Lazarus' Rebellion label with their EP Hier+Jetzt, meaning 'Here and Now', which darted through a number of electronic music charts. A lovely Melodic House track using a sample from the ultra popular German Netflix Series 'Dark', which translated means:

"What do you think? Can we change the course of events? Any scientist would tell you no, causal determinism forbids it. But it is human nature to believe that we play a role in our own lives, that our actions can change things. All my life, I've dreamed of travelling through time, to see what was and what will be. You don't dream that any more? Dreams change, other things become more important. My place is not in the yesterday or tomorrow; rather, it’s right here, and now."

This year sees more releases on the horizon in particular on John Digweed's Bedrock label, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that one. For the foreseeable future however, their identity must remain a secret and all that we are left with is a teaser of their sound and what to expect over the coming years. A stunning mix that has been been carefully crafted in Brighton's Underground, somewhere, somehow...
